Professional bathroom waterproofing 01
Wet-Area Protection

Waterproofing

Waterproofing is necessary if you consider getting tiling done in wet rooms such as bathrooms or kitchens. It's an extra step to protect your home from water damage, and it's well worth the investment.

Tiling failures, leaks, and costly repairs are too common due to poor waterproofing.

Water that escapes from a shower or bathtub can cause severe damage if it goes unnoticed for too long.

Because tiling is not inherently waterproof, proper waterproofing behind tiled surfaces with cement-based grouts is essential. Tiling isn't watertight, and tile failures are typical in New Zealand.

Areas at risk of water damage

01
Constantly wet areas

Showers, areas surrounding the shower, basins and baths.

02
Regularly wet areas

Bathroom, kitchen and laundry floors, plus walls behind baths and basins.

Screed and surface preparation 02
Surface Preparation

Screed & Preparation

If you want tiling done in your home or business, it's essential to ensure the surface is adequately prepared beforehand. This is where screed and preparation come in.

The aim of the screed is that it will create a smooth and flat surface that any flooring or waterproofing can be laid on top. There is a difference between screed and concrete. Concrete is much coarser than screed because although they use the same ingredients, the aggregate used with concrete is larger.

01
Shower Bases

Using screed, we can create a sleek and seamless walk-in entrance into your shower. Plus, it allows you to maintain beautiful tiling throughout your bathroom! Not only do screed-tiled showers increase your home's value, but they also add a touch of class to your bathroom when done correctly.

02
Ramping Compound

A ramping compound is used to create a slope on a floor surface or fill up holes and can also be used on walls. This is often done in order to provide drainage for wet areas like showers or bathrooms where height is a problem and fast drying is required.

03
Plaster uneven walls

We can even help plaster uneven walls to give you a straight and level surface before tiling.

02
Grind concrete and other surfaces

We can also grind concrete and other surfaces to remove any unwanted coatings. This is often done before tiling or flooring is laid down, in order to create the perfect surface for tile adhesion

Tiling & Natural Stone

We specialise in tiling and natural stone solutions for your home or business. Natural stone is an attractive option for flooring, counters, backsplashes, and more

What are the benefits of natural stone?

Natural stone is a unique material that adds value and beauty to your property and can really give your property a luxurious look. Some popular natural stone options include marble, limestone, slate, and granite. Each type of stone has its unique features and benefits.

Marble is a beautiful, versatile option that can be used for flooring, counters, backsplashes, and more. It is available in various colours, including white, black, gold, and green.

Limestone is a versatile stone that comes in various colours and textures. It is ideal for flooring, countertops, and backsplashes.

Slate is a strong and durable stone that is perfect for flooring and countertops. It comes in various colours, including black, green, blue, and purple.

Granite is a popular choice for countertops due to its strength and durability. Granite is also easy to clean and resistant to scratches and stains.

Natural Stone Maintenance

Natural stone needs more maintenance than tiles. It is essential to take extra care when cleaning and maintaining natural stone surfaces. A sealant should be applied every few years to help protect the stone from staining and fading. Natural stone should also be cleaned with mild detergent and a soft cloth to avoid scratches.

Epoxy grout tile finish 05
Lasting Protection

Epoxy Grout

Epoxy grout is a type of grout that is made from epoxy resin. It is used in tile and some stone applications where waterproof and stain-resistant grout is required. Epoxy grout is also more resistant to chemicals than other grouts, making it a good choice for areas that are subject to spills or other sources of contamination. Epoxy grout is available in various colours and stains less than cement based grout.

Advantages of Epoxy Grout

Epoxy grout has many advantages over other types of grout. It is more resistant to staining, waterproof, and chemical resistant. It is also available in various colours so that it can be matched to many tile or stone projects. Epoxy grout is also easy to clean and maintain.

If you are looking for a grout that will provide a long-lasting, durable finish, epoxy grout is the best choice. It is an excellent choice for areas subject to spills or other sources of contamination.

Outdoor pedestal tiling system 06
Outdoor Solutions

Pedestal Systems

The pedestal system is the perfect solution for supporting tiles.

The Adjustable Support Pedestals are a method of laying large outdoor tiles and paving slabs without grout or adhesive. The term ‘suspended system' relates to flooring systems in which no mechanical fasteners are required, and the weight of the tiles or slabs keeps everything in position.

Some key benefits of the pedestal system

We will now go through some of the main benefits of using the pedestal system.

01
Self-levelling heads

At Rocket Tiling, we use Nurajack, who manufactures our pedestal system. Every time you use the Nurajack, you'll get a level deck thanks to its self-levelling head, which some other systems do not have. They can self-level up to 5 degrees. The broad base of Nurajacks spreads the deck load evenly, ensuring stability and preventing any damage to the membrane. The self-levelling head also makes it easy to create a level surface.

02
Allow rainwater to drain away easily

Adjustable Support Pedestals help install large-format outdoor tiles because they allow rainwater to flow between and under the slabs. This also improves health & safety by making the surface less slippery, as no standing water is left on the surface.

03
Ideal for terraces and patios

Adjustable Support Pedestals are ideal for terraces, patios, and verandas since they allow porcelain paving slabs to be installed up to the threshold level on roof decks or balconies without causing flooding.

The 2.2mm positioning lugs are placed between each slab tile to allow rainwater passage and provide a clear paving line for easy, straight-line installation. It also allows easy access to the waterproofing underneath for inspections without damaging the waterproofing.

04
Thermal Expansion

Depending on the temperature outside, tiles, pavers and timber decking will all expand or contract. This is no longer necessary since the pedestal system allows the individual pavers to expand and contract without affecting the other tiles around it.
